“The only way to thrive is to innovate. It’s that simple.” – Alex Tabarrok, Canadian economist.
Flinders University in Adelaide has been thriving since it began harnessing the power of the innovative ERP system, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This has been part of the university’s strategy to use “disruptive technology” to become one of Australia’s top 10 universities by 2025.
Business Central is a cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution and allow end-to-end management of businesses or organisations through real-time access, reports and automation.
According to a university spokesperson, the implementation of Business Central has more than quintupled its project workload capacity, lifting the number of IT projects completed each year from 12 to 62.
“I have 400 applications here at the university. If we can rationalise those products, we can make savings because having 400 applications – you’ve got 400 different maintenance cycles and 400 different ways of keeping that working.” says Kerrie Campbell, the Chief Technology Officer at Flinders University.
Flinders University’s use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has extended to become the marketing and enrolment platform for both domestic and international students.
“Secure efforts are a key priority.” says Kerrie Campbell.
The university’s security and data protection procedures have reached an unrivalled level due to their use of Business Central and upgrade to a Microsoft A5 license. In response to Australia National University’s major data breach in early 2019, Flinders University invested in Business Central to mitigate any potential risks of such data breaches occurring.
The university’s overall productivity and efficiency levels have significantly improved after implementing Business Central and they are confident that they will meet their 2025 goals. They have structured their IT portfolio into three different teams: a student and teaching team, research-focused and customer-centric team as well as a digital business team. Through its use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the university claims that it has saved at least 1700 hours of work.
